Well I guess it was only a matter of time until the World Record was broken and preliminary reports have verified that it has been done! The Spider bull as they are calling it was green scored at 500 1/2 B&C points. The bull was shot on September 30, 2008 near Richfield, UT has been nicknamed the Spider Bull due to all of the Long points that seem to curl like spider legs off of every spare inch of its main beams. The shear mass of the Spider Bull is amazing in and of itself. Each point is as thick as the base of most trophy bulls and Spider Bulls palmation is like no other bull I have ever seen.
The Spider Bull was taken by a hunter who owned the prized Governors tag in Utah which allows the hunter to hunt for almost 5 months and with any weapon and in any area in Utah. This tag auctions off annually and is pulling in close to $100,000 at the auction. The owner of this years governors tag and proud hunter who harvested this bull is named Denny Austed.
The Hunter that shot the bull was guided by Mossback Outfitters and specifically Doyle Moss there has been a lot of controversy over this outfitter and their "supposed" tactics they use year in and year out to successfully harvest Huge trophy bulls each and every year. My opinion is that there are a lot of Jealous Hunters out there who need to quit whining. If Doyle or Mossback is found doing anything illegal or unethical then report it to the local authorities and the DWR. If you can't prove it and you are just spreading rumors, then stop, and quit hating and start saving so you can hire them when you draw your tag. Or call me about borrowing the money to go on your next hunt. We may even be able to save you $100's of dollars per month AND get you the cash to book your next hunt. Trust me your wife will be happy with the monthly savings and you get the hunt of a lifetime. (shameless plug for my business I know). Apply Now
The Spider Bull was seen all summer long by locals in neighboring towns to Monroe mountain and was thought to be around a 450 bull. There was also controversy whether this was a Native bull to the area as it seemed to spring up out of nowhere this year and have a massive rack that no one had ever seen before. Since that time there has been confirmed reports that there is video of this bull prior to this year (2008) thereby dispelling any stories that the Spider Bull may have been farm raised and then planted on the mountain by a outfitter in an attempt to have his hunter shoot the new world record.
Utah is harvesting more Boone & Crockett bulls each year now then any other state and more then most of the rest of the States combined. The spider bull is proof that Utah is the #1 state in the nation to hunt trophy elk.
Some of my readers may not be hunting enthusiasts and that is ok. For those of you who are not into hunting, it is good to know that the Utah Division of Wildlife is doing an outstanding job managing our wildlife and by so doing they are bringing tens of thousands of hunters into our state each year to hunt these animals which significantly impacts our economy in a positive way. It is especially beneficial to these small rural towns close to the mountains which feed, house and fuel all of these hunters.
I hope you enjoyed my post on the Spider Bull. I will be returning to the mortgage business news and inside information now.
